——
a handful of days ago i put up a teaser pic on facebook for the review of what i think is one of the best hair products i have ever used since going natural. and now, it’s time for the big reveal. without further achoo, ladies and the few gentlemen who may care:

this is Syd & Mea’s Finishing Slick by Syd & Mea’s Natural Products. and it. is. AMAZING.
i really just want to type the words ‘ZOMG GO BUY THIS NOW!’ but i’ll try to do better than that.
the website describes this product as “the perfect moisturizing conditioner to beauty, condition, and grow your hair,” and in corresponding with Shontae Ramsey, the line’s owner, she also mentioned that it’s also good for eczema. this was right up my alley, because i have hair, and skin, and some of that skin has eczema. still, i was a little wary because i’m always wary when it comes to products that are made for both the hair AND body; it always seems that they’re either too heavy for my hair or not heavy enough for my skin and i end up using them for one or the other exclusively. but i kept my mind open and decided to try it. everywhere.
the product arrived in an unassuming standard brown cardboard shipping box, but had the company’s logo imprinted on the inside flaps along with a little message to recycle the packaging. very natural, earthy, and green feeling. i always appreciate little touches like that.
i don’t know what i expected of a product called a “finishing slick,” but i opened the jar to find that what i got wasn’t what i pictured. it wasn’t slick or slippery at all, as the name suggested to me. the texture is like… it’s not completely solid, but not liquid either. it’s definitely not creamy, but emulsifies very easily when you rub some between your hands. and then, the texture isn’t oily but just kind of.. kind of like a body butter. that’s a good way to describe it. only not quite as thick.
the scent is very nice; not fruity or manufactured smelling. just a light, natural smelling scent, sort of reminiscent of licorice and cinnamon. it’s not strong at all, and the scent doesn’t linger long, which is bad if you really like the scent, but good if you’re layering products and would rather have another scent take the lead. i like it though.
now the most important thing: this stuff does WONDERS for my hair. doesn’t matter what else i have in it; this is always the star. it penetrates and absorbs amazingly well, leaving me with THOROUGHLY moisturized & really well defined curls. all the added moisture means lots of bounce and spring and sproing, and i don’t even really have to use a gel or holding product on over it–my wash and gos last almost TWICE as long as they usually do when i have the Finishing Slick in it. this is good because it means longer-lasting good looking hair, and bad because i’m lazy as hell and will go weeks without washing if i can get away with it (i dont, but don’t think im not tempted!). here is a picture of my 1st wash & go on day one, shortly after i washed and used this product. and here’s a picture of my hair…
..ON DAY FIVE.
!!
it reactivates VERY well with water.. each morning, i get up, spritz with water, let it sit a bit, put some of the finishing slick on my fingertips & fluff, and voila! i’ve tried products that didn’t leave my hair looking half as good on the first freaking day. this stuff is magical. and you’d think that something that moisturizes the way this does would be really heavy, but it’s even light and gentle enough for my baby niece’s hair! (she liked it so much i had to fight her to get my jar back later.)
and as an added bonus, it’s amazing on the skin too! although i do find that like any butter, it absorbs better when my skin is wet (usually products of this consistency work best in my hair that same way, when it’s really wet, but that’s it seems to absorb just as well on drier hair, too), but it does absorb well, softens, and even calmed my eczema some! it’s great for rough, dry heels (and it’s summer time, so yall need to get that together stat) and gives the legs/thighs a very sexy glisten. i may or may not have gotten felt up the day i put it on. i plead the 5th.
i’ve really been hard pressed to think of a product i like as much as this. if i had to find a product comparable in texture and function, it would probably be Karen’s Body Beautiful’s butter love, which i really, REALLY love (i get similar results with both), but i actually like the Finishing Slick better, for the versatility, if nothing else. and it’s a lot simpler (and a little less greasy) too… it only has four ingredients–avocado butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, and fragrance. KBB’s butter love uses twice the ingredients, and though nothing in there is really bad, i always go for simplicity.
this product is definitely worth the money. this is something that i would splurge for if it was ridiculously outrageous, but at just over 10 bucks for the smallest jar Syd & Mea’s has (4 ounces), i’d say it’s definitely worth it to try the product out and see how it works for you. and if you don’t like it SEND IT TO ME!
and now, the giveaway!
i’ve got a jar of this amazing magical stuff that i’m just aching to give away to someone to see if they like it as much as i do. winning is easy!

My current favorite hair product is a tie between KBB’s sweet ambrosia & butter love. I haven’t tried anything from Syd & Mea but with all your raving, it looks like I might have to, just to see how it compares to butter love.
::fingers crossed for my win::
My fave product is currently cantu shea butter leave-in conditioner because im too cheap to buy anything else! (that college student struggle)
that is a good product tho! it was the only product i used for a long time after TBC!
I currently use Pura Body Naturals Sapote Hair Lotion Tahitian Vanilla. It is currently the only thing I found to keep my hair moisturized and defines curls all day. The scent is wonderful. It can be used for your hair and body.
Ingredients: water, BTMS (behentrimonium, cetearyl alcohol), organic sapote oil, babassu oil, cupuacu butter, organic brazil nut oil, coconut milk powder, green tea extract, banana fruit powder, mango fruit powder, vitamin E, phenoxyethanol and capryl glycol(paraben and formaldehyde free preservative), and essential oils or fragrance.

My current fave product is shea moisture deep conditioning treatment! LOVE it!
So I thought I was finally over my product junkie phase until I saw your results. I had settled on KBB’s Sweet Ambrosia and Butter Love as my staples. They’ve been giving me what I need for about a month now.
From what you describe, the Syd & Mea’s kinda sounds like a more affordable version of this Egyptian Magic product I saw at Rainbow Blossom. That stuff was like $40, so I left it on the shelf.
Anyway, hoping I win, but if I don’t where can I get it?
oh, good question, i need to put this in the post. you can buy this at Syd and Mea’s website: http://www.sydandmeas.com/proddetail.php?prod=hairdressing
tell me about this egyptian magic stuff! does it come with a free trip to egypt? is that why it costs all the dollars in the world?
I know, right? Ridiculous! Egyptian Magic is a double duty product, too. It can be used on both hair and skin. It’s marketed mainly for skin, though. One of it’s main ingredients is also beeswax. But again, at $40 and no trial sizes, I just couldn’t do it, so I have no idea how it actually works.
My favorite hair product changes monthly, but currently, I’d have to say that it’s Darcy’s Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla styling creme. I love to use it when creating my signature style, twists/twist-outs!
my favorite hair care product is Motions Leave-In Conditioner spray. i know that’s not very boho of me, but it makes my hair super soft, and it’s great when i want to wet my hair a smidgen to twist it.
my next favorite is coconut oil. do i regain boho points? lol it’s light enough for my fine hair that i can use it everyday and it seems to be making my hair grow somehow.
and no, i’ve never tried S&M products before.
My current favorite product is coconut oil. I have never tried any of Syd and Mea’s products before:(
my current fave is CURLS whipped cream. but you’ve def made me want to try this out.
sidenote – congrats on / love the new blog look. yay for thesis
Komaza Care Moku Hair Butter is pretty darn amazing.
Currently, my favorite product is Kiss My Face Upper Management Styling Gel. This leaves my twistouts so defined, yet soft. I did a twistout the other day using this product after my DC and leave-in, and my hair was soooo fluffy soft! I have not tried any products from Syd and Mea’s line, however, I’m now looking for a twisting butter to complete my styling aids. I definitely want to try this out!
I’m a fan of Kinky-Curly Knot Today detangler. It sort of melts my knots away and helps me manage my afro daily. I use it all the time, every time I touch my hair, pretty much!
And nope, I’ve never tried any of Syd and Mea’s products.
My favorite product right now is Oyin Handmade’s Shine & Define. I’ve never tried and of Syd & Mea’s products, but I do want to now!
My favorite hair products at the moment are Kinky Curly’s Curling Custard and Knot Today leave-in conditioner. It really defines my curls and is super light and not greasy!
I love the shampoo and conditioner from Trader Joe’s! Cheap, and my hair loves the conditioner as a leave in. I’ve never tried any Syd and Mea’s stuff before but you make it sound awesome.
I’ve recently have tried the Cantu leave in conditioner and i use it on my transitioning hair bantu curls. I have not used Syd and Mea’s products before but i think that winning it would help me in the searchof finding products for my newly natural hair.
I don’t even have a favorite product right now. I’ve not had to do my own hair in so long and I just have it flat ironed so I don’t have to deal with it. Now, I’m trying to find good natural styles that will WORK with my rebellious hair!
And no, I’ve not tried any of Syd and Mea’s products.
My favorite product currently is oyin handmade’s honey hemp conditioner. i mix it with my shea butter leave in i made and its miraculous for me!!! i love it!! I havent tried any of these products but now i’m sooo tempted!!
My favorite hair products of this month would have to be Creme of Nature’s Chamomile and Comfrey conditioner and Organic Hair Mayonnaise which I use as a deep conditioner! They both help to maintain my natural curls!
I have to say, I can’t recall being overwhelmed by ANY natural hair product I’ve tried. I did REALLY like that Nourish conditioner you let me try! But, I’ve only tried it that one time. Hopefully, the rumors are true about us getting a Trader Joe’s and I can buy a whole bottle soon! I do really like Shea Moisture curl pudding (or whatever it is called) in the tub. It is a little greasier than I’d like, though. And for wash-out conditioners, I also like Aussie Moist and Aussie 3-minute miracle! They both make detangling much easier for me than it used to be. I don’t think I have a favorite natural hair product YET!
And no, I have never tried Syd & Mea’s anything before!
LAWD, that ish got your hair LAID. Definitely sold me on this. I’m newly natural and am on a product hunt so I have to try this.
My favorite product so far is Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Still willing to try new things and I’ve just moved the Finishing Slick to the top of the list!
My current favorite product is Shea Moisture’s Organic Curl and Style Hair Milk. However, I am looking for a product with more hold so that I can achieve that elusive five day hair… Now you’ve got the product junkie in me rearing it’s head. lol I’ve never tried any products from Syd and Mea before but I am beyond curious now : )
My favorite natural hair product is probably SheaMoisture’s Curl and Shine Moisture Mist. I do want a product that helps define my curls more, though. I use the moisture mist almost as a leave-in conditioner everyday. I want something that will stay on my hair good enough for me to just spray some water in it and I can go (like you!). I want that 5-day wash-n-go hair swag! And no…Ive never tried, or even heard of Syd and Mea’s products before. I love how enthused you are though and I cannot wait to try it. If I don’t win, I’ll definitely be getting a jar of my own.
My favorite hair product is Giovanni’s Wellness System conditioner! Absolutely wonderful!
I liked Brokey McPoverty on FB (Taci M)
I sent a follow request on Twitter (@iAMmotherhood) and tweeted: http://twitter.com/#!/iAMmotherhood/status/84001458630045696
My current fave product is Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Triple Nutrition conditioner works as a great co wash my hair is always soft after
My favorite hair product is Belle Butters Premium whipped shea butter for hair and body. your curls are so cute! Have some definite hair envy going on here.
LOL so glad I went to your fb page before I tweeted about this contest on my fb page. The contest is over? You have it listed as July 19th here.

i encourage u to pick up a jar of your own though, and if u dont like it i encourage you to mail it to me, cause i’m all out!

My fave product would have to be zipporah beauty green tea hair and body butter. This butter instantly soften, silkifies, and smooths my hair out. It also works as a great sealant and the moisture truly lasts.
I use the Oyin burnt sugar pomade – its great – but the smell…. omg the smell! It could satisfy my sugar cravings!
